Fire Rescue Services say 240 litres of fuel spilled at the old City Centre ... - Edmonton Sun |
Clean-up is underway after a fuel spill at the old City Centre Airport Wednesday. Edmonton Fire Rescue responded to a call around 8:45 Wednesday morning to the site where 240 litres of fuel had spilled into a contained drain near hangar 11. Fire investigators say the spill was likely caused by a damaged fuel cell on an engine test stand. The investigation was then passed on to Alberta Environment and Sustainable Resource Development (ESRD) who say there was no impact to any neighbouring wetlands, and no hydrocarbons entered the sewer system as a result of the spill. An ESRD spokesperson said a vacuum truck was called in to collect and dispose of any pooled liquid on site. However, because the incident occurred on private property, ESRD says it remains the responsibility of the owner to ensure proper clean-up. "We will monitor for proper disposal of contaminant. At this point, we do not anticipate any further involvement with this incident," reads an ESRD statement. Calls to Hangar 11 went unanswered Wednesday. |
