Costs of dialysis in the UK PDF Print

Dialysis in the UK is largely provided by the NHS, sometimes in partnership with private companies who are contracted to deliver the work.  Thers are some private / independent hospital providers and smaller independent holiday units too.

There are 3 main companies that deliver NHS contracts.  These are below with the number of units they work with (correct as of 10 April 2012).

Fresenius works within 50 hospitals

B. Braun Avitum UK works in 9 hospitals, mainly in Wales

Diverum works with 9 hospitals

Costs for dialysis for foreign visitors varies between centers from around £182.00 for standard haemodialysis per session within NHS hospitals to between £350 and £400 for some of the private units within prime locations.

We thought that this report published in the UK in 2009 would be useful an informative to our users.  It details costs of dialysis across serveral trusts in the UK between 2006 - 2009. The report shows significant variation in costs and the report is an invaluable benchmark against which other centres around the world might want to compare themselves against.
