The FCT Administration said Friday that it has concluded arrangements to establish a world-class dialysis unit in Abuja.

FCT Minister, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, who said this in Abuja, also disclosed that approval has already been given to the FCT Health and Human Services Secretariat to urgently make the facilities available to combat the alarming cases of kidney diseases in the country and FCT in particular.

Senator Mohammed further disclosed that approval has been given for the procurement and installation of an Operative Laposcope for general surgery, gynecology and Urology, as well as endoscope to upper and lower gastrointestinal track.

The minister stated that his administration made provision in the 2012 statutory budget of the FCT to procure as well as install a 1.5 Tesla MRI machine in Asokoro District Hospital and a 64-Slice Computerized Tomography (CT) Scanner at Maitama District Hospital.

Senator Mohammed said that the FCT Administration has already procured, installed and commissioned some sensitive modern medical equipment under radiology, which he said included a 64-Slice Computerized Tomography (CT) Scanner as well as Digital Fluoroscope X-Ray machine at the Asokoro District Hospital.

He stated further that his administration has been able to procure and install a Mammography machine for detecting breast cancer at Maitama District Hospital.

The minister said a lot of investments was made to provide basic medical infrastructure in Abuja as the Asokoro District Hospital now has Ultra-Sound and Echo Cardiograph machine (HD 11 machine) which is believed to be the only one in the country; while four new Static X-Ray machines have been installed in Gwarinpa, Wuse, Maitama and Kubwa General Hospitals respectively.

"The FCT Administration has also procured four new Mobile X-Ray Units which has been deployed to Asokoro, Maitama, Wuse and Gwarinpa District Hospitals; apart from the four new HD3 Ultra-Sound Machines (Philips) for Maitama, Gwarinpa, Wuse District and Nyanya General Hospitals, to help check pregnant women and patients with liver or abdominal medical cases," the minister added.
